Sheela na Gigs (also spelled as Síle na Gig) are mysterious carvings found on castles, cathedrals, and churches. While Sheela can be found in Europe and the UK, she is most commonly found in Ireland. Sheela was often above doorways and windows and while her meaning is mysterious and is still debated, it is thought that she:

  • Kept bad spirits out

  • Depicted an ancient Celtic goddess

  • Was used to bring fertility

  • Was a warning against lust

Whatever she was at she can be interpreted today as a feminist icon. G'wan Sheela!

Now you can wear Sheela on your jacket/lanyard/bag/etc to protect yourself from bad spirits, show your devotion to the ancient Celtic goddess, bring you fertility, or just to
